Great Bay Community College Chosen by Staples Associate to Receive $3,500 Grant

Great Bay Community College has been awarded $3,500 by Staples Foundation, under a program that lets Staples Associates direct donations. Matt Valcancick, a second year Marketing student and employee of Staples applied on behalf of his college. Staples believes its way to give back to the community is by giving employees a voice and letting them choose.

President of Student Government Association (SGA), Matt actively advocates for the students of Great Bay Community College. “As a student and employee of Staples, I felt it was my duty to benefit the community and fellow students,” said Matt, “This was my opportunity to support my college as they have done for me over the past two years.” Great Bay encourages and facilitates leadership development in and outside of the classroom and encourages student leadership from all students.

The grants are part of a philanthropic initiative created by Staples Foundation which allows Staples associates from around the world to direct funding to non-profit organizations that are focused on education or job skills. “Staples Foundation is committed to making a positive impact in the communities where our associates live and work,” said Katy Dobbs, director of global community and giving for Staples, Inc. “Through our program, we are pleased to support our associates and the local non-profit organizations that matter to them most.”

“At Great Bay we create an environment where students have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills, and to act innovatively and entrepreneurially,” said Will Arvelo, President of Great Bay Community College “We do wonderful things in the classroom, but we know for a fact that students do a lot of learning outside the classroom. Matt’s leadership will positively impact the community for years to come.”
