Perseverance Pays Off !! Paying it Forward

Meet Andy Guilliams         (4 min. Video)     Video Text

Meet this great Iowan, who grew up in Florida, attended University of Florida immediately after high school for 1 1/2 years then opted to take a break from academics for awhile. Years later, after relocating to Newmarket, NH, he decided to return to school as a liberal arts major at Great Bay CC with an eye towards transferring to UNH when ready. Are we ever glad he did!!!

Andy's versatility, breadth of knowledge, compassionate nature, and enduring patience make him an outstanding tutor as well as student. To date, Andy has logged over 163 hours of tutoring in CAPS and will continue until the end of the semester. This spring, Andy was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the honors program here at GBCC, and was recently admitted to UNH's highly competitive Chemical Engineering bachelor's degree program. Congrats!! Perseverance paid off!

Get a boost on your degree with Academic Booster Workshops Each year GBCC offers several Academic Booster Workshops for students who didn't place into the class they had hoped for and feel a refresher will help them to get there. Students who wish to do some review before completing the placement test may also enroll. Subjects include reading and writing, offered in a combined English format; math; and, new this year, computer skills. The workshops vary in length from 2 to 4 weeks, but meet for a total of 16 hours on campus with an instructor. Students are then encouraged to continue practicing as much as they can before the next session. The practice and review allow a more accurate picture of student knowledge and many find they do "boost" those Accuplacer scores! Check the summer schedule of class offerings for dates and times.
