If you like to meet and work with people from around the world, travel and explore new destinations and cultures, or experience the latest trends in food and beverages or special events then Hospitality Management may be just the right major for you. 

Career Opportunities

The job opportunities are endless. You may choose to focus on hotels, restaurants, event planning or travel and tourism just to name a few. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, hospitality is home for those free spirits who want to create their own businesses including becoming a wedding planner, travel adviser, travel writer, or restaurant, bar, catering company, bed and breakfast, or even a micro-brew pub owner

Internship Opportunities

Because our campus is located in one of the top tourist destinations in New Hampshire, Hospitality Management students have a multitude of opportunities to gain practical experience in the field through GBCC’s internship program. Below you’ll find a partial list of internship sites available to you. Although internships are not required they are strongly recommended because they can provide students with an opportunity to “test drive” a career. If you like it, there is usually a job offer that follows the completion of the majority of internships.

Hospitality Club

hos_vegas.jpgAn integral part of the hospitality program at Great Bay is its Hospitality Club. This club is run by the students with department head serving as the club advisor. The club decides what the goals and activities will be for the coming year. In the past, the club has taken an all-expenses paid (through fundraising activities) trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for Cruise Lines International Assocation’s Cruise360 conference, to Chicago, Illinois for The National Restaurant Association’s Expo, and to Las Vegas, Nevada for Event Solutions/Catersource Convention. The school year is filled with relevant hands-on experiences like running many of GBCC’s public events, helping United Way with their Purses for a Purpose fundraising event, and giving back to the community by serving meals at the local soup kitchen.

Extended Portsmouth Campus 

Classes also take full advantage of Portsmouth which serves as an extension of our campus. In nearly every hospitality class there is an opportunity to experience the hospitality business first-hand. medium_portsmouth_eatstour.JPGWhether it’s attending The Portsmouth Tourism Summit as a part of our Hospitality Sales and Marketing class, taking a Portsmouth Eats Tour as a part of our Restaurant Development and Strategic Planning class, or enjoying first class dining and a behind the scenes tour of the beautiful Wentworth By The Sea – it’s all considered “a day’s work” in the hospitality field! All of the fun things that people do while on vacation…is all a part of our business.
