New & Transfer Student Orientation

Full Day Orientation

The Amazing Race
Thursday, July 13th | 8:30am—3pm | Portsmouth Campus

This full day orientation is a single day experience where, with a small group of your peers, new students will get the chance to interact with faculty and staff, members of the advising and financial aid teams, and CAPS. You will also get a chance to work with one another as you compete against your peers in The Amazing Race! This is not your typical scavenger hunt, but a true collaborative team building experience. The mission of The Amazing Race is to locate specific locations throughout downtown Portsmouth and then perform collaborative tasks and document with photos, all while learning about your teammates and making lasting relationships! It is an exciting, energizing and FUN day! This orientation is six hours and is suggested for all first time and transfer students. Students will register for Orientation at the same time they register for fall classes. Note: there is a physical aspect to this orientation day. If you do not feel comfortable completing the tasks associated with the day, please see the other Orientation offered below.

Operation: Charity
Thursday, August 3rd | 8:30am—3pm | Portsmouth Campus

This full day orientation is a single day experience where, with a small group of your peers, new students will get the chance to interact with faculty and staff, members of the advising and financial aid teams, and CAPS. You will also get a chance to work with one another as you team up to complete Operation: Charity. Teams will be formed where students will work together to earn parts and clothing to build a stuffed animal by navigating through a series of mental, physical, and visual puzzles and tasks. Some tasks require lots of concentration while others are fun and silly, all while learning about your teammates and making lasting relationships! At the end of the day, the stuffed animals will be donated to local organizations to comfort children during difficult times. It is an exciting, FUN, and rewarding day! This orientation is six hours and is suggested for all first time and transfer students. Students will register for Orientation at the same time they register for fall classes.

ROCHESTER CAMPUS– Friday, August 25th at 9am

Mini Orientations offer new students the chance to tour the main area, specific departments of campus, and ask general questions. Students also learn how to use student email and Blackboard. It is also a great time for students to get their new student ID’s or make a stop at the College Bookstore. These orientations are drop-in only, registration is not needed.
